Athletics Ireland has announced the team selection for the upcoming World U20 Championships in Peru from August 27th to August 31st. The team is a mix of talented athletes across various track and field events, including relay teams like the mixed 4x400m and men’s 4x400m.

One of the standout athletes is European U20 long jump champion, Elizabeth Ndudi from Dundrum South Dublin. She made history by winning Ireland’s first field event gold medal in the European U20 Championships last year in Jerusalem. Another promising athlete is Oisin Joyce from Lake District AC, who has shown excellent form in the javelin event with a personal best of 73.72m.

The sprint events will see representation from athletes like Sean Aigboboh from Tallaght in the 100m, and Sean Doggett from Athenry AC in the 400m and relay. Fintan Dewhirst from Tir Chonaill AC, who won silver in the 2022 European U18 championships, will lead Ireland in the 400m hurdles alongside David Davitt from Clonliffee Harriers.

In the middle-distance events, Lughaidh Mallon from Lagan Valley AC will compete in the 1500m, while Jonas Stafford from UCD AC will take on the 3000m race. The relay teams will include athletes like Niamh Murray from Bray Runners, Daisy Walker from Monaghan Phoenix, Amy Jo Kierans from Oriel AC, Conor Kelly from Derry Track, Adam Courtney from Ballymena and Antrim, and Stephen Mannion from South Galway AC.

The team selection reflects a strong mix of experienced athletes and promising talents who will represent Ireland at the World U20 Championships in Peru. The event is set to be an exciting showcase of young athletic talent from around the world.
