update-on-huge-moor-fire-near-greater-manchester

Crews spent more than 24 hours at the scene, tackling flames and smoke that could be seen in the area on Tuesday night. Detectives are now investigating a suspected arson on moorland near Bolton and have issued an update. The emergency services responded to a wildfire on land off Sheep Hose Lane and Rivington Road in Rivington shortly after 8pm on Tuesday (May 13). Multiple crews and specialist equipment from both Lancashire and Greater Manchester were deployed, and people were advised to steer clear of the area.

Four teenagers have been arrested in connection with the blaze, as confirmed by Lancashire Police on Thursday. A 19-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old girl were all arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of criminal damage (arson not endangering life) and were later bailed for further inquiries. Another 19-year-old woman was also arrested on Thursday morning for the same offense and has been bailed pending further investigations. The scene on Tuesday night showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the moor as emergency services worked tirelessly to contain the fire. Rivington Road was closed while firefighters used specialized equipment, including a drone, to combat the blaze. Crews finally departed from the scene late on Wednesday night, as reported by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.
