Surf Internet has recently secured $2.6 million in funding from the Indiana Connectivity Program (ICP), making it the largest award in the program’s history. This funding will allow Surf to bring high-speed broadband to 548 underserved addresses in 13 counties across Indiana. CEO Gene Crusie expressed pride in the team’s commitment to serving communities and delivering internet services to rural areas. With a total investment of $17 million in Indiana’s broadband infrastructure, Surf is dedicated to expanding connectivity in the Great Lakes region.

Director of Special Funding, Steve Carender, highlighted the broader impact of Surf’s investment, which includes plans to connect over 7,500 additional homes and agribusinesses beyond the grant-funded addresses. This comprehensive approach aims to strengthen the digital infrastructure of entire communities and maximize the impact of the grant.

The ICP, managed by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA), aims to provide reliable broadband access to residents and business owners in rural areas. Since its inception, the program has allocated over $9.5 million to help internet service providers connect remote addresses across Indiana.

Surf’s success in securing funding was attributed to its proactive community outreach and education efforts. By hosting informational events and leveraging various communication channels, Surf was able to raise awareness about the program and assist over 600 residents in applying for the grant. This proactive approach highlights the importance of community engagement in expanding broadband access.

Residents at the grant-funded addresses can expect to receive service within nine months from the contract date. They will receive a letter with FAQs and next steps, including a required “Consent for Access to Property” form. Construction updates will be available on Surf Internet’s website as the projects progress.

For more information about the Indiana Connectivity Program and a list of providers granted funding, individuals can visit the OCRA website. Those in need of internet connectivity can submit their addresses through the Next Level Connections portal to explore available options.

Surf Internet’s commitment to expanding high-speed broadband in rural areas demonstrates the importance of public-private partnerships in bridging the digital divide. By investing in infrastructure and engaging with local communities, Surf is paving the way for increased connectivity and economic opportunities in Indiana.
