In 2008, Anastasiou retired from professional football and now, at 51 years old, still remains in the football world. He currently holds the position of Strategic Football Director at Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus. Anastasiou, a Greek native, speaks Dutch fluently and uses his experience and knowledge to guide the club in various football-related aspects such as first-team strategies, scouting, and youth development.

Anastasiou began his professional football career in his home country before moving abroad to play for RSC Anderlecht, Roda JC, and ultimately, Ajax in 2003. His time in Amsterdam was filled with success, winning a national title and competing in the UEFA Champions League. After leaving Ajax in 2006, Anastasiou transitioned into coaching and eventually became the head coach of Panathinaikos in 2013.

Having deep connections with both Ajax and Panathinaikos, Anastasiou acknowledges the differences between the two clubs.
