Oxygen Esports, a prominent esports organization that partnered with the New England Patriots owner Kraft Sports & Entertainment, is reportedly shutting down all operations and laying off its staff. The organization, which was founded in 2020 and funded teams in various esports titles such as Valorant, Rocket League, Rainbow Six, and Apex Legends, failed to secure any championship wins despite their efforts.
According to sources, Oxygen Esports is in the process of letting go of all its employees and will no longer be active in the esports scene. Players from the Boston Breach team have been informed that they will lose access to the Helix facility and will need to vacate their apartments by August 8, just before a major Modern Warfare 3 tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The situation is still unfolding, with some staff members expressing that they feel uninformed about the abrupt decision. The recent suspension of the Shift Summer League playoffs in Rocket League, where staff were allegedly told they would not be compensated as promised, has added to the uncertainty surrounding Oxygen Esports.
While the board and shareholders are said to be working on resolving the situation, it remains unclear what will happen to Oxygen’s spot in the Call of Duty League. Despite the uncertainty, other organizations are reportedly interested in taking over the spot, especially since Activision has waived the $25 million entry fee and is refunding fees paid by existing organizations.
As of now, there has been no official statement from Oxygen Esports regarding the reported layoffs and closure. The future of the organization and its teams remains uncertain, leaving players and staff members in a state of limbo. Dexerto has reached out to Oxygen Esports for comment but has not received a response at the time of writing.
