Japanese petroleum company Idemitsu Kosan has recently made a groundbreaking advancement in motorsport technology with the development of a new engine oil called Idemitsu IFG Plantech Racing. This innovative oil, with a viscosity grade of 0W-20, is unique in that it is made up of more than 80% plant-based raw materials.
What sets Idemitsu IFG Plantech Racing apart is that it has achieved API SP certification, a prestigious recognition in the industry. This certification marks a significant milestone as it is the first engine oil in the world to combine high-performance racing capabilities with API certification while utilizing plant-based materials.
API SP is a new standard for engine oils that was specifically designed to address the critical needs of modern engines, such as chain wear, low-speed pre-ignition, and deposit formation. By meeting the requirements of API SP certification, Idemitsu has proven the effectiveness and quality of their plant-based racing engine oil.
In addition to API SP certification, Idemitsu IFG Plantech Racing has also received Biomass Mark certification from the Japan Organics Recycling Association. This certification confirms the substantial use of biological resources in the production of the oil, further highlighting its environmentally friendly nature.
The new racing engine oil is part of Idemitsu’s IFG/IRG Series, a range of products that are predominantly available in 13 countries where the company’s lubricant affiliates operate. The official release date for Idemitsu IFG Plantech Racing is set for November 2024, with more detailed information expected to be revealed in October.
This innovative development by Idemitsu not only showcases their commitment to advancing motorsport technology but also underscores the importance of sustainable and eco-friendly solutions in the automotive industry. By combining high performance with environmentally conscious practices, Idemitsu is paving the way for a new era of racing engine oils that prioritize both speed and sustainability.
