The Bristol Balloon Fiesta’s first ascent event has unfortunately been cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions. Organizers are now hoping that Tuesday’s flight will be able to take off as planned. This cancellation comes as part of the new city-wide “fiesta week,” which aims to bring hot air balloons to local communities.

In light of the rising costs, the main fiesta has been reduced from four days to three. Despite this setback, organizers are determined to make the most of the event. The Met Office has predicted wind speeds of around 30mph for both Monday and Tuesday mornings, making it difficult for the balloons to take flight safely.

Organizers have planned for a fleet of hot air balloons to launch in various local communities across the city before coming together at the central arena at Ashton Court. If weather conditions permit, more than 100 hot air balloons will take flight from this location.

Among the launch sites selected after receiving numerous nominations are Vassels Park, Hengrove, Elm Park, Westbury-on-Trym, and Somerdale Pavilion in Keynsham. These locations will provide a beautiful backdrop for the balloons to take off and showcase their colorful display to the local residents.

Despite the cancellation of the first ascent event, the 46th fiesta will still feature two Night Glows on Friday and Saturday evenings. These mesmerizing displays are sure to captivate audiences and create a magical atmosphere in the night sky. Attendees can look forward to a weekend filled with excitement and wonder as the balloons light up the darkness with their vibrant colors.

While the weather may have posed a challenge for the Bristol Balloon Fiesta, organizers are determined to make the most of the event and bring joy to the local communities. With careful planning and consideration for safety, they are working hard to ensure that the remaining days of the fiesta are a success. As spectators eagerly await the sight of hot air balloons filling the sky, they can rest assured that the event organizers are doing everything possible to make it a memorable experience for all.
