Jaguar, a well-loved British car brand, has made a significant announcement that will shake up the automotive industry. The company has decided to halt the sales of all new cars for an entire year following the introduction of a new EV sports car. This bold move is part of Jaguar’s broader plan to transition to an all-electric lineup by 2025, marking the end of an 88-year tradition of producing petrol-powered vehicles.
Starting next year, customers in Britain will no longer have the option to purchase a Jaguar vehicle with an internal combustion engine. While the production of the F-Pace model will continue until 2025, no new cars, whether ICE or EV, will be available for purchase until 2026. This shift towards electric vehicles will take effect in Europe by the end of this year and in the UK by early 2025.
During this sales hiatus, Jaguar will focus on selling used cars and providing after-sales services to its customers. Despite the temporary absence of new vehicles, the company’s Managing Director, Rawdon Glover, assured that the iconic leaping cat logo will not be disappearing. He emphasized the importance of heritage, history, and brand identity in the luxury segment and mentioned that the logo will be reimagined in a modernized form.
Looking ahead, Jaguar is gearing up to unveil its new EV concept in December, setting the stage for the next generation of vehicles, including the anticipated GT model scheduled for release in 2026. Priced at £100,000, the GT model is expected to deliver 575 horsepower and offer a range of over 435 miles. Following the GT, Jaguar plans to introduce an SUV and a limousine model that will compete with the likes of Bentley’s Bentayga and Flying Spur, with both models slated for release in 2028.
Mr. Glover expressed confidence in Jaguar’s future products, stating that they will play a pivotal role in shaping the perception of the automotive sector. Addressing current challenges associated with EV ownership, such as range anxiety and charging infrastructure, he highlighted Jaguar’s commitment to developing vehicles that address these concerns effectively.
In a similar move, Ferrari recently discontinued two of its models, signaling a broader shift towards electrification in the automotive industry. Despite rumors suggesting otherwise, Jaguar remains steadfast in preserving its iconic brand identity and logo, ensuring a seamless transition into the era of electric vehicles. With exciting new models on the horizon, Jaguar is poised to make a lasting impact on the automotive landscape and redefine luxury electric vehicles for years to come.
