Manchester City Council Approves First LGBTQ+ Extra Care Housing Scheme in UK
Manchester City Council’s planning and highways committee have given the green light for the development of the UK’s first LGBTQ+ extra care housing scheme. The groundbreaking project, named Russell Road, is set to be constructed on the former site of south Manchester’s Spire Hospital, which was recently demolished. This 80-bedroom development will cater to the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals aged 55 and above, providing a safe and inclusive environment for them to age with dignity.
Support from Sir Ian McKellen and the Pride in Ageing Programme
Renowned actor Sir Ian McKellen, representing the Pride in Ageing Programme, has expressed his support for the Russell Road project.
