Sporting Lisbon has officially announced that Manchester United is planning to pay €10 million to trigger Ruben Amorim’s release clause. This news comes after recent reports from the Manchester Evening News revealed that Amorim had agreed to take on the role of the next United manager, with his release clause not posing a problem.
Sporting Lisbon has confirmed that they have received communication from United regarding their intention to activate Amorim’s release clause. This means that Amorim could soon be appointed as the new manager of Manchester United. While Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in charge of the team for the upcoming Carabao Cup match against Leicester City, Amorim could potentially make his debut as United’s manager during the Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday.
The statement released by Sporting Lisbon stated, “Manchester United has shown interest in hiring coach Ruben Amorim, with Sporting’s board of directors referring to the terms and conditions outlined in the current employment contract between the club and the coach. This includes the termination clause of €10 million, which Manchester United has expressed interest in paying.”
If the deal goes through, Amorim will become the sixth permanent manager of Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. He will be tasked with leading the team to success in the Premier League and European competitions. Amorim previously led Sporting Lisbon to their first league title in 19 years during the 2020/21 season, followed by another league title in 2023/24.
Before his potential move to Manchester United, Amorim had discussions with West Ham earlier this year regarding the managerial position at the club. However, he expressed regret over these talks, calling them a ‘mistake’ and ‘disrespectful’ to Sporting Lisbon. Despite the missed opportunity with West Ham, Amorim is now on the brink of taking on a new challenge with one of the biggest clubs in English football.
Should the deal be finalized, fans can expect to see Amorim bring his tactical expertise and winning mentality to Manchester United as they aim to compete for major trophies once again. His track record of success at Sporting Lisbon makes him a promising choice to lead the team forward and restore the club’s glory days in the Premier League.
