Travellers flying with valuable items this summer have been advised to pack cling film to protect their belongings. Holidaymakers using airlines like Jet2, Ryanair, TUI, and easyJet have received a warning, especially if they plan to bring valuables such as earrings, rings, and necklaces. Pandora UK’s specialist Sarah Rowlands has shared an important tip on how to keep your jewellery safe while traveling. One simple and cost-effective way to do this is by using cling film that many of us have at home in our kitchens.
If you don’t want to spend money on a travel jewellery box or risk putting your items loosely in your bag where they may get damaged, Sarah suggests using cling film. She advises laying your jewellery out on one half of a large piece of cling film, folding the other half over, and then rolling it up to keep everything compact and tangle-free for packing in a box or pouch.
Another option is to use small plastic bags for your jewellery while traveling, with chains mostly inside and the ends dangling out to prevent tangling. Sarah also recommends sealing the bag to keep necklaces, chains, bracelets, and anklets from getting tangled.
For additional protection, Sarah suggests using an old piece of cardboard or polystyrene with holes for earrings to go through, or piercing earrings through a cotton ball for safe transport. This is better than storing multiple loose earrings in a bag where they can bump into each other and cause damage.
It is important to consider leaving very special or valuable jewellery at home, especially if it is not insured. Some people even opt to take cheaper versions of their engagement or wedding rings on holiday instead of the real ones. It is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to valuable jewellery.
