Jaguar is set to unveil an electric vehicle concept in December and will halt the sales of new cars for a year. The brand’s managing director, Rawdon Glover, mentioned that they have reimagined the leaper for the new brand and vehicle in a slightly updated format. Historic names will play a role in naming the new cars, with nods to the past and forward-thinking aspects.

The GT model will be revealed in the US, highlighting the importance of the American market for Jaguar. Glover emphasized that while Britishness is crucial to the brand, they are also a global brand with a significant presence in the US market.

This shift to pure EV propulsion by Jaguar is in response to competitors adjusting their electrification strategies due to stagnant demand for premium electric vehicles. Porsche plans to continue producing petrol-powered vehicles like the Cayenne, while Audi and Mercedes-Benz have focused on hybrids and plug-in hybrid models, respectively.

Jaguar’s parent company, JLR, has also adjusted its EV strategy, increasing its electrification investment to develop flexible platforms for Land Rover. This move aims to cater to market demands as buyers remain hesitant towards EVs.
